TRAVEL INFORMATION


TRAVEL By Car:

From I-80 traveling east:

  • Just before Iowa City, Iowa, take Highway 218 south at exit 239

  • Travel south to Highway 2

  • At Highway 2, go east through Ft. Madison and cross the toll-bridge ($2.00) on the Mississippi River into Illinois

  • Take Highway 96 south about 9 miles to Nauvoo

From 1-80 traveling west:

  • Just east of Moline, take Interstate 74 east to Galesburg

  • Then take 34 west to Biggsville

  • Go past Biggsville, take 94/116 south to Highway 96 south

  • Stay on Highway 96 south to Nauvoo

From I-70 traveling east or west:

  • In Missouri, take exit 209 at Wentzville on Highway 61 north

  • At Hannibal, take Highway 36 east across the Mississippi River Bridge

  • Travel Interstate 172 north past Quincy

  • Exit west on Highway 24

  • Follow Highway 24 to Highway 96

  • Follow Highway 96 north into Nauvoo


TRAVEL BY AIR:

GETTING TO NAUVOO: VIA CHICAGO

Drive Time: Approximately 4.5 hours, 275 miles

O'Hare International Airport (ORD)

Leave the Chicago area via Interstate 80, heading West towards the Quad Cities. Just before the Quad Cities, take the exit for Interstate 74 East (Peoria). Follow Interstate 74 East to Galesburg, Illinois and take the exit for US Highway 34 West (Burlington). Follow US Highway 34 West to Carman Road (the last stoplight before going across the Mississippi into Iowa) and turn left on Carman Road. Follow Carman Road for 10 miles and turn right on Illinois Highway 96, the Great River Road. Nauvoo is 22 miles south from that point. 

GETTING TO NAUVOO: VIA ST. LOUIS

Drive Time: Approximately 3 hours, 170 miles

Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (STL)

Leave the St. Louis area via Interstate 70, heading West. Follow US-61 North for 165 miles to Keokuk, Iowa. US-61 will run concurrently with US-136 heading East into Keokuk. Follow US-136 East across the Mississippi River into Hamilton, Illinois. Once in Hamilton, Illinois follow IL-96 North for 10 miles in Nauvoo. 

GETTING TO NAUVOO: VIA KANSAS CITY

Drive Time: Approximately 4.5 hours, 260 miles

GETTING TO NAUVOO: VIA OMAHA

Drive Time: Approximately 5.25 hours, 320 miles

GETTING TO NAUVOO: VIA MINNEAPOLIS

Drive Time: Approximately 6 hours, 395 miles

St. Louis and Chicago are the two largest airports within reasonable driving distance of Nauvoo, however the list below offers additional options for you to consider. Both St. Louis and Chicago airports offer service to our closer, regional airports in Burlington, Iowa and Quincy, Illinois. 

Peoria, Illinois:  Peoria International Airport (PIA) - 125 miles from Nauvoo

Moline, Illinois:  Quad Cities International Airport (MLI) - 100 miles from Nauvoo

Cedar Rapids, Iowa:  Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) - 120 miles from Nauvoo

Springfield, Illinois:  Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport - 130 miles from Nauvoo

Burlington, Iowa: Southeast Iowa Regional Airport (BRL) - 27 miles

Quincy, Illinois:  Quincy Regional Airport (UIN) - 55 miles

TRAVEL By Rail

Although Nauvoo is not located on a rail line, there are Amtrak stations in Fort Madison, IA (about 7 miles away), Burlington, IA (about 30 miles away), and in Macomb, IL (about 50 miles away), where travelers can transfer to a rental car or use a taxi service to reach Nauvoo.
